Women's Health Physiotherapy
Sensitive, evidence-based physiotherapy for pelvic floor, pregnancy, postnatal recovery, and women's musculoskeletal concerns — with Sophie Cuthbert at our Burleigh Heads clinic.
Women's health physiotherapy at The Health Phyx is led by Sophie Cuthbert, who holds a Doctor of Physiotherapy from Bond University and a Bachelor of Exercise Science from Latrobe University. Sophie has completed additional postgraduate training focused on women's health and pelvic floor physiotherapy, and this area is a central part of her clinical practice. All assessments and treatments are delivered as part of a confidential, one-on-one consultation in a private room.
Women's health physiotherapy is an area of physiotherapy that focuses on conditions affecting the pelvic floor and the musculoskeletal changes that occur across the life span — including pregnancy, the postnatal period, and menopause. Treatment is evidence-based and tailored to your individual presentation and goals. The aim is to give you a clear understanding of what is happening in your body and a practical plan you can follow at home.
Common reasons women seek a women's health physiotherapy assessment include urinary incontinence (stress, urge, or mixed), pelvic organ prolapse symptoms, persistent pelvic pain, pain or dysfunction with intercourse, pregnancy-related back or pelvic girdle pain, abdominal separation (DRAM) after childbirth, and uncertainty about safe return to exercise after birth. Many of these conditions respond well to conservative physiotherapy management, particularly when assessment and intervention begin early.
Your initial appointment runs for 60 minutes and includes a detailed subjective history, an explanation of relevant anatomy, and — where clinically appropriate and only with your full informed consent — a physical assessment. Internal pelvic floor examination is one of several assessment tools available; it is never compulsory and external assessment options can be discussed. Sophie will explain every step of the process, and you can stop the assessment at any time.
Treatment plans typically combine pelvic floor muscle training, breath and pressure-management strategies, manual therapy, and progressive return-to-activity programmes. Where appropriate, Sophie may liaise with your GP, obstetrician, midwife, or gynaecologist to support coordinated care. The clinic's on-site gym and recovery suite mean rehabilitation, strength work, and return-to-sport progressions can all happen in the same place, with continuity of care.
